We are pleased to announce that a new dataset from the Met Office: Crowd-Grid is now available in the CEDA Archive.

Data Incident Christmas Update

This is an update on the Archive data incident that occurred on 18th November 2025 - see previous updates here.

We are making good progress with recovering data back into the Archive and have made significant progress. Over 1.6 Petabytes of data have been recovered to a holding area - 1.3 Petabytes of this has now been moved to its correct location in the Archive. Most of this should now be available to users - we are doing some final checks for data permissions.

CEDA ARCHIVE INCIDENT - 18th November 2025

Dear JASMIN and CEDA users,

At approximately 10:02 on 18th November 2025, during the migration of data in the CEDA archive, a mistake was made which resulted in some data being deleted from the archive. The issue was identified at approximately 12:07, the archive was locked down preventing further loss by approximately 12:25, and the incident was fully diagnosed by 14:00.

As previously announced via the status page, a regular maintenance day is scheduled for Tuesday 4th November. This potentially affects all JASMIN and CEDA services.

This morning, the 26th June, until midday (12pm), we will be rolling out some improvements to our CEDA account management services. During this time, there may be disruption to some website functions, including sign up for new CEDA accounts and account management operations such as password reset. Once completed, these updates should result in a better user experience while managing your CEDA account.

Easter updates for CEDA and JASMIN users

Scheduled maintenance affecting SSD storage Tues 22 April

Changes to scheduler policies for standard and highres partitions

Over the Easter period, CEDA and JASMIN services will be running at risk. Due to public holidays, our helpdesks will be closed at the end of working hours on Thursday 17th April until the morning of Tuesday 22nd April. Staff leave during the school holiday period also affects our availability at this time.

Update to CEDA dataset application system on the 11th of February, from 10am onwards.

On Tuesday 11th February, starting from 10am and continuing all day, we will be rolling out a number of improvements to the way dataset access applications and authorisations are managed for CEDA accounts. During this time, some CEDA account features will be inaccessible. These include sign up for datasets, users’ dataset overview pages, and JASMIN account linking.

Both roles are full-time open-ended contracts with a starting salary of £33,380 plus a £1,000 welcome bonus! CEDA Data Catalogue Update, Today from 3:30-4:30pm

Data, docker and Django - Rory and Zach's Journey at CEDA

This year, CEDA had the pleasure of welcoming two industrial placement students, Rory Jenns and Zach Wharton, who joined us as Software Engineers for their Industrial Placement year. Hailing from the University of Nottingham and Loughborough University, respectively, Rory and Zach have spent the past 12 months diving into various projects, from software development to stakeholder engagement and system deployment. Let’s take a look at the fantastic work they accomplished during their time with us.

CEDA’s data catalogue service update has been complete and should no longer be considered at risk. This roll our brings some minor cosmetic changes to users and a more resilient server overall to reduce future disruption and aid future service roll outs.

Software and operating system changes - update 1

Fostering Early Career Excellence - Insights from the NCAS Early Career Symposium

The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) recently hosted the first-ever symposium for the early career atmospheric science community - Harmony in the Skies: Bridging Horizons in Atmospheric Science. Two CEDA graduates, Jesse Alexander and Nicola Farmer, helped organise the event, which was designed to bring staff early in their atmospheric science careers together.

CEDA Data Catalogue update at 4pm today

The CEDA data catalogue will be temporarily down at 4pm today to allow for an update to be rolled out to enhance our content harvesting by Google to aid wider discoverability of the data in the CEDA archive. We hope that this brief interruption will be kept as short as possible.

JASMIN storage issues - resolved

Issues now resolved, please report any further problems.

Further problems occurred over the weekend with JASMIN’s SOF storage, used for /gws/nopw/j04/* group workspaces and the CEDA Archive. With LOTUS batch cluster jobs failing for this reason, hosts have been removed from the cluster for the time being.
